The mission of Gretna United Methodist Church is "connecting diverse communities to the lifestyle devoted to Jesus." From its inception, God intended the local church to be filled with people of all nations, ages and races together, not worshipping separately. In Jesus' last prayer, He prays that all believers may be one. And all means all! His prayer is for unity among His followers. That means we are to be about connecting to diverse people in the name of Jesus and for the sake of the Gospel that we might have unity in Jesus Christ.
A lifestyle devoted to Jesus- Your lifestyle not only defines who you are, with whom you identify but also what you value and believe in. When you follow Jesus, it's about having a lifestyle which exemplifies the life, heart, attitudes, faith and actions of Jesus. That's why we seek to instill in the followers of Jesus the lifestyle of Jesus. Our goal as Christians is to "be like Jesus." 1 John 2: 5-6 puts it this way, "This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." So we are not called just to believe in Jesus but to "...take on an entirely new way of life-a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you." The Message Translation
Our life is our witness. You cannot call someone to something you're not living and doing. Jesus said, "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." So we don't just call people to believe in Jesus but to join us in living for Jesus.
